Entry No. 75 - These are to certify that James MATTHEWS, widower, and Matilda PAYNE, spinster, both of Bonne Bay, N.W. Shore, Nfland, were married according to the Rite of the Church of England on this twenty fifth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy seven. (The said James MATTHEWS and Matilda PAYNE having been previously married by a Lay Reader on the 4th December 1876, there being at the time no clergyman to be found in the place according to a custom prevailing on the shore). By me Joseph J CURLING, Missionary Priest. The above marriage was solemnized between us; his mark X James MATTHEWS and her mark X Matilda PAYNE. In the presence of us; Elizabeth PAYNE, his mark X John PAYNE.
